The Toronto Chinese Dance Academy, established in 1990 by Yan Lam and Chi Cheng, offers structured dance training in Chinese classical and folk dance for Children and Adults, ranging from beginners to professional levels. Faculty members are caring, experienced, and certified by Beijing Dance Academy Examination Centre. Students are trained in classical techniques, national folk dances, rhythm and musicality, as well as the syllabus of the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Examination. Annual recital and regular performance opportunities are provided. Students of all cultures and genders are welcomed. The Academy is one of the few dance schools in North America with certified teachers providing dance training in the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Examination Syllabus. Academy students continually achieve 100% passing rates at the coveted Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Exam each year, with over 50% obtaining Good or Excellent ratings. The Academy students have also won numerous awards and recognitions in dance competitions and have performed across Canada. The Toronto Chinese Dance Academy is also a pioneer in promoting cultural interchanges through the presentation of public seminars and workshops on Chinese dance, including the Classical Dance workshop Series on Body Aesthetics and Water Sleeves.
